Having trouble deciding which expansion to buy? We've ranked all of them and chosen our favourite. The Sims 4 is a simulation game that allows you to create your own character and thrust them into a world filled with a variety of scenarios. You can control their lives and make them as dramatic or relaxed as you want.
There are multiple expansion packs that you can buy to add to your in-game experience but making a decision can be tricky. This is why we've ranked all of the expansions that are currently available. You will need to buy and install The Sims 4 base game before you can install any expansions. If you buy the expansions as part of a game bundle, you still need to install the base game first. Now, we've ranked all the current expansions based on general community opinion and how much we think they bring to a game.
However, the best expansion will always be the one that brings you the most joy and the one that improves your own in-game experience.
Get To Work gives you new career paths that you can play in detail. You can choose to run your own retail business, become a super sleuth detective, a heroic doctor or a scientist. If you choose a career in retail, you need to build your shop, choose your stock and price it. Then, you need to hire staff and manage opening hours while being there to interact with customers. You can create any store of your choice, even an art gallery filled with your own designs.
In the detective career, you hunt down criminals and solve mysteries to keep others safe. Unfortunately, as fun as it is to play through these careers, it leaves you little time to do anything else. Your Sim can become so famous that other Sims will become their fans and experience the "starstuck" moodlet if they are near your Sim.
Anything is possible in the world of Del Sol Valley, if a Sim can make it to stardom here they can make it anywhere. You can make your Sim an Actor or an Influencer but this will be hard work if you don't cheat. Having a new world, two new career options, a bunch of items and new interaction options is good.
However, compared to other expansions, it's missing the replayability that some of the others possess. Despite its positive features, Get Famous has quite a few downsides. Its world of Del Sol Valley is one of the smallest in the game, with only eleven lots in total despite its seemingly big map.
The pack is also known for its array of glitches , many of which have yet to be patched three years after its release. Snowy Escape includes the winter sports that should've been included in Seasons. The world of Mt. Komorebi stands out as the first Asian-inspired environment in the game and is unique enough to be ranked amongst the best.
Snowy Escape also introduces a new Lifestyles mechanic, a series of traits that Sims acquire organically by performing certain activities. It was created in an effort to diversify Sims and make them more unique, but the feature doesn't live up to the hype it created upon reveal. Sims go to the city with City Living. The expansion pack introduces apartments and penthouses, weekly cultural festivals, and three new metropolitan careers: politician, critic, and social media influencer.
City Living also adds several lot traits for both household and community lots, including Cursed, Sunny Aspect, and Party Place. Unfortunately for players who enjoy building, apartments are restricted to the city of San Myshuno and cannot be created or deleted, and only their interiors can be modified.
Windenburg is one of Get Together 's best features. The Northern European-inspired world is the biggest in The Sims 4 , with a whopping twenty-seven lots, including a huge sixty-four by sixty-four residential lot. Get Together also introduced clubs, a fairly useful mechanic, especially when the player needs to manage several Sims at the same time. You can also learn about new Sims by signing up for various clubs all different in style, identity and interests.
Stay in the company of other Sims to participate in secret dance parties, midnight bonfires and more. Make their dreams come true in the city of San Myshuno, where they can discover exciting neighborhoods, move to a new apartment, participate in fun festivals and much more. Make your way from a small apartment to a penthouse while your Sims take on new careers! These wonderful life companions will change the lives of your Sims into new special ways.
Treat animal diseases as a veterinarian and manage your clinic in a beautiful coastal setting where your Sims and their animals will have plenty to discover!
Seasons — Introduce the climate into the lives of your Sims to tell new stories, discover seasonal activities and celebrate the festivities you care about most with The Sims 4 Seasons. Make the most of the climate all year round, from freezing snow to sweltering heat. Each scenario is differently influenced by the seasons. Create a winter story with ice skating, make friends with a magical scarecrow during the autumn harvest, experience a spring love during a thunderstorm, or organize a summer party at the pool.
Gather friends and family to celebrate the holidays with lots of traditions, gifts and guests of honor. Keep yourself warm or cool with new clothes suitable for any weather. Build your reputation by pursuing an acting career, become a leading personality and guide your Sims along the unpredictable path to fame.
Kits are even tinier than Stuff Packs and only include a few items, some of which add a new small mechanic to the game, like vacuuming. I like having NPC Sims live close by to my own Sims, and I like the immersion of having the world directly available for interaction — my Sims can wake up in the morning and order a coffee at the stand, just like I do! City Living adds a bunch of unique neighborhoods in the metropolis of San Myshuno, each with its own aesthetic and quirks, as well as some cool furniture and clothes.
You can also attend Sim Comic-Con, which I think is hilarious. The ability to give your Sims pets is a game changer literally , thanks to Cats and Dogs.
Adding animals to your household is fun, and it may be the thing your Sim family is missing. In addition to adding the titular seasons to the game, the Seasons Expansion Pack adds lots of fun plants and holidays.
The change in temperature and seasons also gives you an excuse to hook your Sim up with multiple outfits, rather than just having them switch from career clothes to their regular clothes every day. It pulls the best parts of The Sims 4 and makes them better. There are more animals to pet and befriend, like cows, foxes, and chickens. Gardening has been expanded, and I can do more than just tend to my flowers. I can grow pumpkins and other vegetables, and share the delights with a new community in Henford-on-Bagley.
Cottage Living has also done something that other Expansion Packs have failed to do for me.
