Population represented different school environments and socio-economic catchment areas 2 primary schools were city-based and 2 were village-based. Subjects were recruited from participants in a larger study of diet and health in three English towns. A convenience sample was used for both the development and validation of the tool, this contained some illiterate individuals.
Subjects were previous and current workers from the Barilla food company in Parma, Italy. There were a greater proportion of women and higher education levels and weekly income in the studied group. Subjects were recruited from towns in the Netherlands from ongoing projects.
The tool was developed based on dietary intake data from 2 communities, the validation study only used participants from 1 of the communities. Results are not split into gender. Participants were recruited via opportunistic sampling from primary-care centres in three Latin American countries Chile, Uruguay and Argentina.
Participants were adolescents with an equal gender split randomly sampled from 2 secondary schools in Malaysia. All following results relate to the French FFQ only.
