They're given a gun too, with limited ammo to make every shot count. Players control the main character, the sea witch Wadanohara, as she journeys back to her home, a blue underwater kingdom. Away on a long journey to look for answers about her lost memories, Wadanohara and her three familiars run into old acquaintances and new threats as they protect their home and continue the search for Wadanohara's missing memories.
The cute art style and beginning of the story belies a tale that has several dark and twisted moments. For a lot of people, there are few things more rewarding than owning a pet. Whether it's furry, fuzzy, scaley or feathery, pet owners form deep emotional bonds with their animals. And the flash game Can Your Pet? Players take care and love their chick by dressing them, feeding them, and even playing fun games with them. But this seemingly wholesome game turns terrifying as soon as players click a certain option.
The game is short but the effect it leaves is long-lasting. Dreaming Mary is probably one of the cutest sidescrollers around, with a very sweet fairytale vibe. Players take control of Mary, a girl who loves to dream and one day finds herself in a dreamlike place, filled with characters who treat her like an old friend. As cute as the game seems, it veils a much darker reality that Mary lives in, with her friends showing their true colors as the game progresses.
Mary faces many challenges and depending on the choices of the player Mary can either dive deeper into her dream or wake up to reality. In this game, players take on the role of the MC of a seemingly traditional dating sim. They find themselves apart of a literature club at school whose members are a group of cute girls, with three that can be romanced.
Players can read the girls' poems and write poems in a mini-game, choosing words that will please the girl of their choice. Things suddenly turn dark at the end of the game's first act, quickly transforming this dating sim into a horror game.
There are several different endings, and easter eggs to be found by accessing the game's files to make it a surprisingly compelling experience, even for those who aren't as interested in dating sims or the anime aesthetic.
Peter Parker's adventure into the metaverse could have been so much more. Ericka Blye is a year-old writer and gamer. The game is supposed to be a statement against political correctness in the gaming industry.
The seventh main entry in the Resident Evil franchise is a return to form of sorts, focusing on the survival horror, rather than intense action and combat that characterized the series since RE4. You control main character Ethan from the first-person perspective, which gives you a privileged point of view to the horrors he must endure — including getting his arm chainsawed off at one point. Never mind that he gets a new hand and attaches it with a stapler and some magical healing water or something only moments later.
This indie roguelike shooter puts you in control of Isaac — a traumatized child traveling the hellish dungeon beneath his home in a quest to kill his own mother before she kills him. Yes, the enemies are horrifying, and the fact that you need to dismember them in order to keep them from coming back to kill you is rather unsettling.
However, creepy violence is pretty old hat in the world of video games. Dead Space 2 does it extremely well, capitalizing on the strengths of the first game and helping to tighten up its weaknesses. That said, slicing up some alien monsters isn't enough to land Dead Space 2 on the "Time to turn this game off right now" list.
Dead Space 2 has one specific scene, however, that might just scar you for life. If you've played the game, you know what we're talking about: the NoonTech Diagnostic Machine. Also known as "That awful scene where you jab yourself in the eye with a needle. This isn't just a disturbing cutscene, either: you are actually in control , attempting to plunge a needle directly into protagonist Isaac Clarke's pupil. Miss and the machine malfunctions, creating a bloody mess as the needle plunges past Isaac's eye.
The success is almost worse; Isaac isn't killed, but watching the blood leak from the corner of his eye is cringeworthy enough to keep you from wanting to continue. We all know that children are disturbing. The unsettling horror trope of "creepy kid who knows way too much about the monster" is wildly popular for a reason.
Here's the set up for Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc : a group of children are, essentially, imprisoned together and put through a series of demanding tasks. One by one, the children are executed in elaborate ways by an animatronic, psychotic bear named Monokuma. That said, the Danganronpa series works because it plays on one of our most primal fears: children.
Eurogamer compares its central conceit to other massive influencers in pop culture: The Hunger Games , Battle Royale , and Lord of the Flies. The bizarre, somber mood the game sets after forcing the player to essentially mark a student for death is extremely unsettling, and will make you second guess many of your decisions.
It's a tough game to get through, despite its chilling but captivating story. Who are we kidding — there's no way Pony Island is disturbing, right? Just a nice relaxing game about ponies chilling on an island, eating Is that what ponies eat? Of course this game isn't what it seems. Pony Island is about a demonic arcade game, possessed by Satan, that is designed to steal your soul.
The fact that it looks like a simple little pony game makes it even tougher to deal with. Kotaku called the game "seriously twisted," and they talked about the way Pony Island is able to subvert your expectations and mess with your mind: "At one point I was tricked into thinking I had accidentally sent a horrible message to someone outside the game. Or whatever body part you want to scream out. Pros: A sad but great story overall, jump scares we're not very predictable and I feel they are used perfectly in this game, game sound was great overall, controllers are smooth so you can panic while using WASD but smoothly.
Cons: I wouldn't even say this is a con really but, I personally do wish the game was a bit longer. But this just leaves me more excited for any upcoming projects or maybe an Infliction Part 2 if this happens? Overall rating: 4. Developer: Chilla's Art. The developer on Steam did not provide a warning for this game but from personally playing this game, this game contains general mature content, violence and some gore.
If you haven't played Chilla's Art games before, just a heads up: these are short but neat little Horror games to play. The Convenience Store is a J-Horror game about a college girl who works, well, at a convenience store and it just happens to be that her shifts are all at the creepiest time of night where she encounters some very interesting characters and starts experiencing not the best things you'd want to experience when working alone at night.
If you want to get immersed into a game with some creepy environments, puzzles and story, please do check out their other games as well. Truthfully, I have no cons about this game. I know some people do not like the VHS effect because it can make them a bit dizzy but know that you can turn this off inside the game's menu.

The door jams and she's locked inside, forced to search through the dark corridors. She hears the echo of a power drill in the distance and realizes she's not alone.
